Elaine

Originally from Nova Scotia, I moved to Toronto where I settled in 1984. I attended George Brown College with a focus on business administration.

Prior to Feld Kalia, I worked in various industries such as “Real Estate and Insurance, gas industries such as Superior Propane and Imperial Oil”, holding multiple analytical positions.

I wanted more of a challenge and to be part of a close knit team who shares in providing support and guidance to each customer and a company that I would be proud to work for. I found that in Feld Kalia.

While meeting up with a very good friend she suggested I try dabbling in Real Estate Law. I always had a great interest in real estate and interior decorating, so, in 2005 I worked part time alongside her. I remember those days fondly as Feld Kalia first came to fruition. I have learned so much about real estate and continue to learn daily. I have especially come to realize how much I enjoy being part of Feld Kalia and the amazing team that has been built from the ground up.

As a Legal Assistant at Feld Kalia, I find it extremely exciting and rewarding to be part of a firm and team that has an amazing work ethic, who provides incredible support, knowledge and guidance. A team who not only cares about the business but especially cares for our customers. I enjoy working on every real estate transaction, from intake, file setup, to final closing. I especially enjoy knowing that at the end of the day our customer (especially a first time home buyer) is walking into their home with keys in hand after a smooth and stress free closing and knowing I was part of that team who helped them is very rewarding. I look forward to continuing to learn and grow with Feld Kalia.

Klerda Koxhja

A real estate transaction can be one of the most stressful, overwhelming but at the same time, exciting times in someone’s life. My mission as a real estate attorney is to alleviate any stresses that come along with this and streamline the entire process from beginning to end. I joined Feld Kalia in 2017 as an articling student, and now my practice is primarily focused on representing individuals and corporations in resale transactions, new-build transactions and private financing. My approach is client-centric as I always aim to empower our clients through knowledge and expertise during this very important process.

Prior to joining the Feld Kalia team, I worked as Paralegal in a boutique law firm on Bay Street, but I decided to expand my legal education and pursue law school. I completed my law degree (LLB) at the University of Leicester, UK, and my undergraduate degree (Honors B.A) at the University of Toronto. During my legal studies I was involved in various student initiatives, including the Canadian Law Society and Pro-Bono Clinic, where I provided a range of services including contracts and landlord and tenant disputes. Real estate stood out to me as the field of law that I wanted to pursue based on my own real estate dealings and investments as well as the legalities of it all.

In my spare time, I enjoy travelling and spending quality time with my family.

Sonia Kalia

Having attended York University, I earned a B.A. Degree, with a focus on Law and Society/Sociology, followed by my law degree (LL.B.) at the University of Western Ontario.

I started my career in corporate defense litigation, subscribing to the Bay Street life, and embarking on a journey to save enough money to purchase my own first home. I finally found a condo near my office in 2003, it was an assignment. I was ecstatic – everything I had worked so hard for, all my dreams, all my parents’ dreams, were coming true.

On the day of my closing, I delightedly called my lawyer to ask when I would get the keys; he didn’t even know I was closing that day. He demanded I meet him at a local Starbucks to deliver funds and sign documents immediately. I was not aware of the funds required until that moment – I was unprepared – he never told me. I rushed to the bank and for the first time ever, took a cash advance on my credit card. I desperately rushed to meet the lawyer, signed, and gave him the money. He said he would “let me know” when I can get into my new place. He called at 4:30 saying your keys are in Richmond Hill and the lawyer’s office closes at 5 pm. “Good luck”. I rushed – again. Suffice it to say, it was a horrible first time home- buying experience.

I was in a relationship at the time, with the love of my life, David, who I met on the first day of law school. He lived this experience with me – our first foray into real estate. He knew that as a client, I deserved better. David started the kind of real estate firm that we would have wanted – one that prepares and educates clients about the real estate process, and empowers them to transact in real estate. After years in corporate litigation, I made the decision to join David, my now husband and father of our 3 beautiful daughters, in creating a real estate law firm that delivers.

When I purchased by assignment 20 years ago it was unheard of. There was little governance for that kind of deal. When I joined the WEARELAW team, I focused my energies on learning everything about assignment transactions. Since then, I have spoken with realtors at the Ontario Real Estate Association and at real estate agencies to offer education on real estate transactions, with an emphasis on assignments. I love educating others about what to expect with regard to every aspect of real estate closings. We think about everything from the perspective of YOU, the client.

David Feld

Having attended the University of Toronto, I earned a B.Sc. Specialist Degree with Honours, followed by my law degree (LL.B.) at the University of Western Ontario.

With strong ideas about how clients should be treated, I took a risk, left the Bay Street life and embarked on a journey to create and nurture my own law firm, alongside my wife, now partner, now mother of 3 beautiful daughters, Sonia Kalia.

Focusing solely on residential real estate law, and providing virtual, no touch, services for properties across Ontario to clients locally and internationally, we are experienced. Our volume is high and we get exposed to a plethora of tricky situations. This allows us to gain expertise at an exponential rate.

Our firm is adept at problem-solving in order to protect our clients’ best interests. We value and implement the contributions that our employees and clients provide. All of this would be impossible without our amazing passionate team of dedicated professionals who love what they do.

I give seminars at the Law Society of Upper Canada, banks and real estate agencies, Zoom meetings with 1000s of realtors from my home and most recently, I am on TikTok (@davidthefeld). I love helping to educate others about what to expect with regard to every aspect of real estate closings. I am excited about opportunities to teach others. The more information I get out there, the better.
